Joshua Poldark (1724 - 1783) was the Master of Nampara and the father of Ross Poldark.[1]

Biography[]

Life[]

Joshua Poldark was the youngest child of Claude and Matilda Poldark. He was the younger brother of Maria and Charles Poldark and the nephew of Agatha Poldark.[1]

At some point, he was given Nampara and it's mines. He lived at Nampara House. He would go on to marry Grace Vennor and have two children, Ross Poldark in 1760 and Claude Poldark in 1764.[1]

He was widowed in 1770, and his younger child, Claude died in 1771.[1] In 1780, Ross Poldark joined the British Army and fought in the Revolutionary War. They would never see each other again.[4]

In March 1783, Joshua was dying and he called for Charles to go to Nampara. He told Charles he was worried he wouldn't see Ross get home. Joshua soon died. Ross had fought in the Revolutionary War and was eventually thought to be dead.[5]

Joshua soon died,[3] and he was buried in Sawle graveyard.[2] He was thought to be a scoundrel and libertine by the locals and he left his land in debt. Ross would later return to Cornwall and visit his father's grave.[4]
